SOA-C03 FAQ - Common Questions (AWS CloudOps Engineer - Associate)

Answers to common SOA-C03 questions: format, labs, passing score, prerequisites, scope boundaries, and the fastest way to prepare.

What is SOA-C03?

SOA-C03 is AWS’s associate-level operations certification. It validates your ability to deploy, manage, monitor, troubleshoot, and optimize AWS workloads.

How many questions and how much time?

  • 65 total questions (50 scored + 15 unscored)
  • 130 minutes
  • Question types: multiple choice and multiple response

Does SOA-C03 include labs?

According to the current AWS exam guide, SOA-C03 response types are multiple-choice and multiple-response only.

What score do you need to pass?

AWS reports a scaled score from 100-1000. The minimum passing score is 720.

Is SOA-C03 harder than SAA-C03?

They test different depth:

  • SAA-C03: architecture design trade-offs.
  • SOA-C03: operations execution and troubleshooting.

If you are stronger in day-2 operations and incident handling, SOA-C03 usually feels more natural.

AWS recommends around 1 year of AWS operations experience plus related system administration exposure.

What should I focus on most?

  • Monitoring + alarm/remediation flows (Domain 1)
  • Reliability and disaster recovery patterns (Domain 2)
  • CloudFormation + Systems Manager automation (Domain 3)
  • VPC/DNS/connectivity troubleshooting (Domain 5)

What is generally out of scope?

  • designing distributed architectures
  • designing CI/CD pipelines
  • designing hybrid/multi-VPC networking architectures
  • software development depth

Fastest prep approach?

  1. Start with the section overview and domain weights.
  2. Use Resources to work from the official exam guide and AWS operations docs.
  3. Keep the Cheat Sheet open while drilling.
  4. Finish with mixed timed sets only after your remediation logic is consistent and low-risk.
